Hi Dancers:
I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all that you do. You are all such amazing and beautiful dancers. What makes you so amazing is that hard work and dedication you put into your art. You have a passion to learn and a drive to dance. That is a beautiful thing. I think sometimes only dancers really get that idea of "needing" to dance. We need it. We just feel better after we dance. Dancing is good for us on so many different and varied levels. You know that saying, "once a dancer, always a dancer"? As dancers we need to move. We need to flow. I spend a lot of my time thinking about dance, and movement to music. I think a lot about expression and emotion. When we dance, we release and express.
Last year our theme and goal was to try to dance a little bit every single day, even if just for a moment. We are still going to try and dance as much as we can, but this time, our focus is going to be creativity and flow. This year we will be working a lot on improvisation in our dancing. I always say dance should be something we enjoy doing. Yes it can be exhausting and challenging at times. But above all, dancing should make us feel alive. My goal has always been to keep my classes accessible. One thing I always struggled with as a young dancer was being able to afford the classes I needed. I was always more motivated having someone help me and push me. I would get "stuck" and not know how to motivate myself or get to the next step on my dance journey. I had some really phenomenal instructors who inspired me and guided me.
I hope to keep providing that same inspiration and guidance while also offering affordable options for anyone to learn how to dance. At the same time, as we think about dance and artistic expression...as we think about what we need and what we want, I hope and challenge each of us to tap into our creativity and to just dance. We will take what we know and practice. We will try new things that we don't know. We will experiment with movement and dance expression. I can't wait to see what is accomplished this next year. Keep dancing, Dancers.
